Our lives are formed in out formative years. They say our personalities are set by the age of 5. So what happens when you are given no true identity in your childhood? What if you are shuffled and placed in so many places you don't even know where home is. It certainly isn't "home is where you hang your heart" if more than half the time you aren't even with your family or those that truly care about you. This is a book that reveals no matter what circumstances a young person is raised in they have the choice to rise above. It takes a strong person to realize that what happens to you doesn't define who you are. Anna is one of these people.This book details her life within the confines of a polygamist cult. It isn't really what I expected to read. I thought it would be about the cult itself, but it is written in such an personal way it shows the cult from the inside out. It's just life for a young girl that happens to be a part of this extremely large, dysfunctional group of people that are all related one way or another. Having 49 siblings makes it hard to find your place in a family unit. I don't think Anna really ever found hers. She redefines herself apart from ones family unit to more of a family of friends and those she can truly trust.I was amazed at the courage of this young girl and I highly recommend this book. It's not just a good read about a cult, it is a good read about the resilience of the human spirit. I think many of us would have crumbled, curled up in the fetal position and lived in fear and self pity. Not Anna LeBaron. She just saw it as the only life she knew, but also one she knew she didn't want to be a part of. Excellent read. It made me question just how much the hand of God protects young kids. He may not keep them from heart ache, but He can guide them safely to a life He has planned for them no matter the circumstances the world puts them in.I asked to read this before it's published. Anna LeBaron takes her reader into the world of a polygamist cult where children are used as slave labor, contact with outsiders is limited, young teenage girls are subjected to sexual advances by potential husbands (ofttimes without knowing they are "auditioning" for the role of additional wife), and defectors are murdered. The narrative doesn't always flow smoothly--because it isn't a story; it's someone's actual life! Realizing that you're reading events that actually happened rather than something someone dreamed up because it would make a good story is devastating. This memoir is gripping, heartbreaking, yet triumphant as the reader follows young Anna's escape from the cult and her bravery in building a new life for herself. LeBaron's account is gritty, penetrating, and heart-rending. Definitely worth reading!
The Polygamist's Daughter simultaneously broke my heart and reminded me of the power of forgiveness and God's love for His children. LeBaron describes the struggles and abuses her family endured under her father in a way that makes you feel as if you are right there with her. She details a life of abuse, poverty, and running from the FBI and so many more experiences that anybody, let alone a young girl, should ever have to bear witness to. Yet, LeBaron's story is also one of hope. My heart broke for the young Anna and her multitude of siblings, but rejoiced with and for the adult Anna. Ms. LeBaron reminded me of the power of forgiveness and of the strength of siblings' love for one another. The Polygamist's Daughter is a testament to the fact that we do not have to be victim of our circumstances and our pasts don't have to define us. Through her joyful spirit and forgiveness, Anna LeBaron shines her light so that through her, others can see Him.

The transition between young Anna, teen Anna, and adult Anna as narrator is seamless.Scenes from LeBaron's life are painted in riveting detail. I read this book in one sitting; I couldn't put it down. I've already begun researching this cult to piece together more information that happened outside the author's point of view.
